Plea to restrain screening of ‘Enthiran'
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: A Tamil writer has filed an application in the Madras High Court seeking an ad interim injunction restraining the director and producers of the film ‘Enthiran' from distributing, screening and exhibiting it in any cinema hall, electronic media or open air theatre.
In the application, Aarur Tamilnadan of Velachery said the story of the film was nothing but the story of ‘Jugiba', written by him and published in 1996. Though the story of ‘Jugiba' was published in the Tamil monthly ‘Iniya Udayam', as per the understanding between him and the publisher, he was the first owner of the copyright. The copyright got created in his name on January 1, 1997.
Mr.Tamilnadan had filed a suit claiming Rs.1 crore from the director and producers as damages.
When the matter came up before Justice S.Rajeswaran, notice was taken on behalf of Kalanithi Maran, Managing Director, Sun Pictures and Sun Pictures Private Ltd.
The Judge permitted the applicant's counsel to take notice through court as well as privately to S.Shankar, the film director. The notice is returnable by November 18. The matter has been posted for that date.
