KOCHI: Ration card holders in the above poverty line (APL) category will not be excluded from the State Public Distribution System (PDS), Minister for Civil Supplies C. Divakaran has said. As many as 13 essential items would be distributed through the 14,000 modernised ration shops in the State, he said at a food advisory council meeting here on Tuesday. The Indian Oil Corporation should work on Sundays to ensure the smooth delivery of cooking gas in the State, Mr. Divakaran suggested adding that the State government would take steps to check inflation. The meeting adopted suggestions to bring the public distribution system under Supplyco. Middlemen will be eliminated from the public distribution system, an official press release said. Action will be taken against ration dealers who do not display details of card holders. Advisory committees would be formed at the panchayat, taluk and district levels, it said.
