Tiruvannamalai: Inflatable lights are to be used in the Tiruvannamalai hill on the evening of Karthigai Deepam, in order to provide better visibility for the devotees climbing on it, Ramesh Kudawla, Inspector General (IG) of Police (North Zone), said.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday after holding a meeting of DIGs, SPs and DSPs with regard to security arrangements for Karthigai Deepam, he said that the total number of policemen to be deployed for security arrangements for the festival worked out to around 10,000. “Hawkers would not be allowed on the road or pavement along the Girivalam path but they can hold shops beyond pavement during the festival,” he said. ‘May I Help You' booths, traffic regulations, surveillance cameras etc would be put in place as usual, Mr.Kudawla added.
DIG (Vellore range) H.M.Jayaram said that the number of inflatable lights to be used was 20. Later speaking to TheHindu SP M.Pandiyan said “this is the first time we would be using this kind of light in deepam festival. Police in every district have one such light and now we would mobilise them”.
DIGs Masanamuthu(Villupuram), Ramasubramaniam (Kancheepuram), SPs V.Vanitha (Tiruvallur), Prem Anand Sinha (Kancheepuram), T.S.Anbu (Vellore), Pagalavan (Villupuram) were among those present in the meeting.
