The resignations

Another fantastic cartoon (Nov. 10). Minutes after U.S. President Barack Obama left India, Congress party president Sonia Gandhi got Ashok Chavan and Suresh Kalmadi to step down. Though it may have deflated the Opposition strategy, it is a pointer to how, irrespective of the party in power, the political class resorts to every possible trick to feather its nest. Corruption has become part of the Indian narrative of declining ethics and vanishing probity.

The resignations do not absolve the Congress leaders of their role in the Adarsh Housing Society and the Commonwealth Games scams. Ms Gandhi should prove her determination to wipe out corruption by dropping all Ministers who have been named in one scam or the other. The guilty should be punished to restore the confidence of people.

Jetling Yellosa,

Nizamabad
