HYDERABAD: After a wait of almost two days to catch the crocodile that had surfaced in accumulated water at Nanakramguda, the forest officials began pumping out water from the construction site on Wednesday. To dry the site till the crocodile could be caught, five 10 HP motors were pressed into service with some more motors expected to be added by night. According to the officials, given the water that had accumulated over a spread of more than one acre, it could be a day's task. Officials visit site Senior officials of the department visited the site in the afternoon and the option of pumping out water was chosen. Earlier, several possibilities were examined including using a tranquiliser on the crocodile, but it was ruled out. “Even if we use it, the drug takes about 15 minutes to show its effect and there is a possibility of the crocodile sinking and dying,” an official explained. The accumulated water spread has been over an acre with a depth of almost 25 to 30 feet and adding to the problem, more water kept seeping in from a nearby lake. Another possibility was to wait around for the crocodile to come to the land and then catch it. “It has to come to land, bask in the sun and rest. But this will take time and will have to ensure that people are not hanging around,” he pointed out.
