South Zone enters final

Bangalore: Host South Zone cruised into the final of the 16 {+t} {+h} DGQA inter-zonal football championships with a 5-1 victory over North Zone at the CQAL ground here on Wednesday.

Manoj Kumar netted a brace for the victor with Prakasham, Ram Kumar, and J. Venkatesh also getting onto the scoresheet. Sandeep Sharma scored the only goal for North Zone.

East Zone rallies

In the other semifinal, East Zone rallied from a two-goal deficit to overcome Central Zone 3-2. After Sathya Pradhan and Bhupal Bhoi had put Central Zone 2-0 up in under 12 minutes, G.N. Das, Subhir Chakraborty and Ranjan Roy struck for the eventual victor.

The results (semifinals):

South Zone 5 (Prakasham 15, Ram Kumar 26, Manoj Kumar 31, 44, J. Venkatesh 43) bt North Zone 1 (Sandeep Sharma 20).

East Zone 3 (G.N. Das 32, Subhir Chakraborty 48, Ranjan Roy 50) bt Central Zone 2 (Sathya Pradhan 4, Bhupal Bhoi 12). — Sports Reporter
