Indian Bank aims to continue its growing streak

CHENNAI: As part of the centenary celebrations in 2010-2011 of Indian Bank's Mylapore Branch, its Chairman and Managing Director, T. M. Bhasin on Wednesday vowed to turn it into a much bigger, better and customer-friendly bank in the country.

Delivering the special address at the function, he said India Bank was reckoned as the best bank in the country and it would continue to render best services to its loyal, new and prospective customers.

“The Mylapore branch is the third branch of Indian Bank, with the first one being established 104 years ago. Currently, this branch has a business turnover of Rs.500 crore and it will be doubled over the next three years. Out of 1,300 branches in the country, 800 are in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Mentioning that it had lent nearly Rs.8,000 crore for education purposes, he said that it was the second nationalised bank after the State Bank of India to render such a huge sum out of the total loan portfolio of Rs.70,000 crore.

He said he was ready to hear complaints or suggestions from the public either through mail or in person to render better service and to keep its growing streak. While other banks grew at 18 to 19 per cent per annum, Indian Bank grew at 24 per cent, he added.

Mr. Bhasin honoured eminent personalities and loyal customers of the bank among others. The celebration was marked by dance, drama and light music.

Indian Maritime University Vice-Chancellor P. Vijayan, social worker Sarojini Varadappan, music director M.S. Viswanathan, former Member of Parliament Vyjayanthimala Bali, BCCI Selection Committee Chairman, K. Srikkanth and Mylapore MLA S.Ve. Shekher were the chief guests.

In her felicitation, Ms. Varadappan recalled her long association with Indian Bank and said that she was indebted to this branch for enabling her to complete renovation of a temple in a village and to start education institution.

Mr. Srikkanth urged Indian Bank CMD to encourage sportspersons.

“Though several multi-national banks have their presence in the country, Indian Bank still offers best service to its customers,” Mr. Shekher said.
