Golden sheen: Visitors looking at the lamps displayed at Poompuhar showroom in Thanjavur on Friday. THANJAVUR: Each festival is unique in its own way. While crackers are burst for Deepavali, beautiful lamps are lit to celebrate Karthigai Deepam festival. Clay lamps (Agal vilakku), wick lamps are lighted in the houses for the festival. As a prelude to Karthigai Deepam that falls on 21st of this month, the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation has organised a lamp exhibition at its Poompuhar showroom here . Panchaloka and bronze lamps prepared at the Production unit of Poompuhar at Nachiyarkoil; Malabar lamps, two ft to six ft high wick lamps, Moradabad lamps, clay lamps (agal vilakkus) are on display in the exhibition. Apart from these lamps, people can also purchase handicrafts from various states. Discount According to the Manager of Poompuhar, a sales target of Rs. 3 lakh has been fixed for the expo. Ten per cent discount is offered. The expo is on till November 30 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
