Staff Reporter

Tirupur: M. Arif (10) died after he accidentally fell into a pit situated on an abandoned stone quarry at Palladam on Friday.

The boy drowned in the water that got collected in the pit during the recent rain.

There were some tense moments in the area as the residents of the locality demanded steps to cover the pit as almost 13 people had died in the spot this year. However, the police refuted it. Revenue officials, who arrived in the spot, agreed to fence the pit.
