KOCHI: Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church will celebrate the centenary of the publication of ‘Pambakuda Namaskaram' — the daily prayer book of the Jacobite Syrian Christians — at St. Baselios Shakrallah memorial centre at Kandanad near here on November 13 and 14. A release issued by the organisers said that Baselios Thomas I Catholicose will inaugurate the centenary celebrations. D. Babu Paul, former Additional Chief Secretary, will be the main speaker on the occasion. Mor Ivanios Mathews, Metropolitan of Kandanad diocese; Mor Koorilose Geevarghese, Metropolitan of Niranam diocese; and Mor Aphrem Mathews, Metropolitan of High Range and Perumbavoor regions of the Angamaly diocese will attend. It was in 1910 that the then Malankara Malpan, Konattu Mathen Cor – Episcopa of Pambakuda, published a daily prayer book in Malayalam translating parts of the ancient Syriac ‘Shimo' prayer book. The Pambakuda Namaskaram was translated and published by him for the use of Jacobite Syrian Christians as per the Apostolic Bull. Mor Ignatius Abdedaloho II, the then Patriarch of Antioch, had given him the permission to publish it.
