BANGALORE: One of the senior-most and respected seers in the State, Balagangadhara Natha Swami of Adi Chunchungiri Mahasamsthana, has filed an affidavit before the Karnataka High Court against blasting activities being carried out in the vicinity of the ashram at Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district. The swami, in his affidavit, said he and scores of devotees and residents of Chunchungiri town had given representations to the Government against blasting activities in and around the town. He said there is an ancient temple dedicated to Kala Baireshwara. It stands on pillars and it has been renovated at considerable cost. The foundation of the temple stands on rocks and any blasting could set off vibrations which could affect the temple. Government advocate Ravindra Kolhe said the Government had banned blasting within the vicinity of the temples. He said the petitioner, L. Balakrishna, has no right to seek a lease to carry out blasting. A Division Bench adjourned further hearing of the case.
