Stalin lays foundation for turmeric complex in Erode

Dream come true:Deputy Chief Minister

ERODE: Farmers in Erode district have two big reasons to celebrate. Two long-pending projects, Integrated Turmeric Complex and the Terminal Marketing Complex for agricultural produce, are soon going to be a reality.

The State Government had cleared the turmeric complex project for implementation and the Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation for it on Sunday.

Turmeric farmers and traders in the district have been struggling for the last two decades for the establishment of the turmeric complex.

The project was delayed on the grounds of various administrative and other reasons.

“Now we have sorted out all the issues pertaining to the turmeric complex and given the go ahead,” Mr. Stalin said.

The turmeric complex would come up on 7.34-acres of land at Karumandichellipalayam.

A sum of Rs. 15 crore had been earmarked for the project. The land was expected to be handed over shortly for the construction works, officials said.

The complex, if established, would help improve the turmeric trade in the district, traders said.

The Deputy Chief Minister has also given new hope to the farmers in the district on the implementation of another major project, Terminal Market Complex for agricultural produce on the SIPCOT premises in Perundurai. He said that the government was taking all necessary efforts for the implementation of the project.

The Terminal Marketing Complex, Mr. Stalin said, would provide a number of modern infrastructure facilities including cold storage, mechanised sorting and online trading for the farmers in Erode and neighbouring districts.

The charges for usage, market fee and other fees would be fixed in favour of the farmers and traders, Mr. Stalin added.
