CHENNAI: His admirers and critics recalled their association – for some it has spanned almost 50 years and for others, perhaps just a decade, but all of them admired his versatility. Brahma Gana Sabha organised a function on Saturday to honour poet-lyricist Vaali on his 80th birthday. Collection of songs Actor Kamal Haasan released a collection of songs penned by Vaali. The two volumes of the poet's works were received by film director Shankar. Cho, Editor of Tuglak, led the long list of admirers by praising Vaali's incomparable talent. Function Brahma Gana Sabha president Nalli Kuppusami Chetti said that he had expressed a desire to organise a function for Vaali to celebrate his birthday as he enjoyed his works. Playback singer P. Susheela, recalled that her first national award came after singing a song that he had penned. Music director M.S. Viswanathan, director S.P. Muthuraman, actor B. Saroja Devi, playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam, poet Palanibarathi and actor Suriya, recalled their association with the poet.
