MGREGA funds to be used for cleanliness drive

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism and district in-charge, said funds from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGREGA) would be used to undertake cleanliness programmes in rural areas.

Speaking after laying the foundation stones for several developmental works and inaugurating a few others in Kurgodu on Sunday, Mr. Reddy said emphasis had been laid on the overall development of the district, with stress on rural area development.

Action plans prepared by several gram panchayats to maintain health and hygiene in rural areas would be implemented soon using MGREGA funds. He also appealed to the public to extend their cooperation in maintaining their surroundings.

Earlier, Mr. Reddy participated in a couple of functions to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate works at Yerrangli and Siddamanahalli villages.
