NEW DELHI: A domestic help of a builder allegedly decamped with over Rs.1 crore in cash kept in his house in the posh Greater Kailash-I area of South Delhi on Saturday. A hunt has been launched for the accused. The businessman, Sunil Bedi, lives in W-Block of Greater Kailash-I. He along with his mother, wife and three children had gone to attend his nephew's wedding in neighbouring Gurgaon on Saturday night. His three domestic helps, Kaaliya, Prem and Ram Kishore, stayed back at the servant quarters on the top floor of the building. Around 10-30 p.m., Ram Kishore went downstairs on some pretext and allegedly managed to gain entry into the first-floor residence of Mr. Bedi. He opened the almirah with a key kept nearby and allegedly took out the cash. He then went up to the servants' quarters to check on the other two domestic helps, who noticed that he was trembling. Stating that it was nothing but the chill in the air, he left the place again. When he did not return for a long time, the other two helps went downstairs and discovered that their employer's house had been broken into. They called up Mr. Bedi and narrated the whole incident, following which the builder's family informed the police. Enquiries by the police revealed that Ram Kishore had been working at the builder's residence for the past five years. However, his antecedents had not been verified by the employer through the local police. Investigations revealed that he had previously been employed in the neighbourhood. Though his previous employer, who had got Ram Kishore's background checked, the police managed to get his photograph and native address at Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. A team has been dispatched to Unnao in search of the accused.
