Day to cherish for orphanage resident

KOLLAM: The district administration and the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) organised a reception here on Monday for Viji, 21, who is getting married on November 18.

District Collector Devendrakumar Dhudawat gave her Rs.20,000 collected by the NYK and the district administration. Viji was found abandoned as a three-year-old in front of the Social Welfare Department's Balamandiram at Nooranad. Staying there, she attended school till the age of 14. Then she was shifted to the Aftercare Home at Anchalummodu. She passed Class X, did a computer course and passed a teachers' training course. She is employed at an Anganwadi now. Some months ago a colleague of her got married. Vidyadas, 29, who attended the wedding as a guest saw saw Viji and proposed to her.
