Raghuveera to press for seed price control

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy is leaving for Delhi on Tuesday to again press for inclusion of provision for regulating price of seed in the Seed Bill which is likely to be introduced in current session of the Parliament. Mr. Reddy has marshalled support from his counterparts in other States and some of them are likely to accompany him when he meets the Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Tuesday afternoon. Ever since the Centre came up with the Bill, it has become controversial with many States and civil society groups opposing it. Officially most States, including Andhra Pradesh, insisted on regulation while civil society groups felt the Bill impinged on laws relating to protection of plant varieties law and rights of farmers.
