Sagwal passes away

CHENNAI: Former India volleyball player Balwant Singh Sagwal passed away in his hometown, Kaul (Haryana) on Sunday.

Sagwal (65), an Arjuna Awardee, represented India in three Asian Games (1970, '74 & '78).

Volleyball Federation of India has condoled the demise of the star attacker.

“Ballu, as he was affectionately called, was an outstanding player for the country and can be termed a world class attacker.

He was a fighter to the core,” said Ramana Rao, Director, FIVB Regional Development Centre, and one who played alongside Sagwal.
