GUANGZHOU: Top-seeds Chinese Taipei and the China won the men's and women's titles as the team competition in tennis concluded at the Asian Games here on Tuesday. The doubles proved decisive for the Chinese Taipei men as Tsung-Hua Yang and Chu-Huan Yi humbled Asian doubles champions Murad Inoyatov and Denis Istomin 6-3, 6-4 to beat Uzbekistan 2-1. No trouble Istomin had no trouble dismissing Tsung-Hua Yang, the former World No.1 junior, 6-4, 6-0 in the second singles after Inoyatov had lost the first rubber for Uzbekistan. With the semifinalists getting bronze, India had the satisfaction of bagging a medal with a team that did not have its three prominent players — Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna who are all busy on the professional Tour. In the women's final, China's Shuai Peng and Na Li won their singles matches to beat Chinese Taipei, rendering the doubles rubber redundant. The results (finals): Men: Chinese Taipei bt Uzbekistan 2-1 (Ti Chen bt Murad Inoyatov 6-2, 6-4; Tsung-Hua Yang lost to Denis Istomin 4-6, 0-6; Tsung-Hua Yang and Chu-Huan Yi bt Murad Inoyatov and Denis Istomin 6-3, 6-4). Women: China bt Chinese Taipei 2-1 (Shuai Peng bt Kai-Chen Chang 6-3, 7-5; Na Li bt Yung-Jan Chan 6-1, 6-1; Shuai Peng and Zi Yan lost to Chia-Jung Chuang and Su-Wei Hsieh 3-6, 2-6) .
