SHIMOGA: Congress workers staged a demonstration here on Tuesday in protest against the reported remarks by RSS leader K.S. Sudarshan against Congress president Sonia Gandhi. They demanded that he be arrested immediately. The former Minister Kagodu Thimmappa addressed the workers at Gopi Circle. He said that if the RSS sought to distance itself from the remarks of Mr. Sudarshan, it should join the Congress in seeking his arrest. He said that AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi likened the RSS to SIMI keeping in mind certain events. “But Mr. Sudarshan's remarks against Ms. Sonia Gandhi have been made without any basis,” he added. Mr. Thimmappa alleged that the BJP Government was trying to politicise the issue of reservation of seats in taluk and zilla panchayats to which elections would be held soon. He urged it to convene a session of the Legislature at the earliest to take a decision on the issue. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and State BJP president K.S. Eshwarappa were issuing contradictory statements on the reservation issue, he said. He criticised Mr. Yeddyurappa for justifying his action of sanctioning sites to his sons on the plea that his predecessors too did it. President of the District Congress Committee R. Prasannakumar and party leaders Ismail Khan, N. Ramesh, S.V. Thimmaiah, K. Devendrappa, K. Ranganath and Abdhul Wahid were present.
