Woman found murdered in TTD cottage

TIRUMALA: Under mysterious circumstances, a woman was found murdered in one of the TTDs cottages at Tirumala here on Tuesday.

On receiving the information, Tirumala police, who broke open the doors of the room which was locked from outside, found the body of the woman in a highly decomposed state.

The incident came to light when the on-duty TTD staff complained to their senior officials about the foul smell emanating from one of the rooms at the TTD's free choultry.

According to the information furnished in the registers being maintained by the reception officials, the woman who identified herself as Jayanthi (35) native of Dharmapuri of Tamil Nadu occupied the room on the 12th of this month along with six of her family members who are said to be at large.

The TTD provides accommodation to the pilgrims atop the hill town only for 24 hours duration.

Darshan tickets

In certain cases wherein the pilgrim parties have a valid reason or possess darshan tickets for the next succeeding day, the authorities nevertheless allow them to stay back for the second day. In this particular case, with the occupied room remaining locked from outside against the prescribed norms and conditions beyond the stipulated period, the staff with no other option left, over locked it from outside. Police who suspect it a case of murder have registered a case and shifted the body to the government-run SVRR Hospital at Tirupati for medical autopsy.
