One proof of address, 478 SIM cards

Proprietors of seven firms arrested
Some SIM cards are being used by criminals

BANGALORE: In the ongoing drive against misuse of documents validating proof of address to issue multiple SIM cards, the city police on Tuesday arrested the proprietors of seven firms.

The police arrested Suresh (40) of Magic and Touch Distribution in Indiranagar, Somashekar (39) of Bhagyalakshmi Enterprises in Malleshpalya, Siddiq (23) of Sahil Enterprises in Maratahalli, Govind (36) of SPG Enterprises in Electronics City, S. Wahid of Maheed Traders in Shivajinagar, Mahaveer (30) of Riddi Siddi Mobiles in B.V.K. Iyengar Road and Sunil Kumar Tiwari (49) of Sriharsha Electronics in Wilson Garden.

All the seven have been accused of using one subscriber's proof of address to issue hundreds of SIM cards. “As many as 478 SIM cards were issued using the document submitted by one Uma, while 336 SIM cards each were issued using the document submitted by Asma Khan and Muruga. These SIM cards were issued between March 2009 and July 2010,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar.

Investigations show that some of the SIM cards were being used by criminals involved in cases of extortion, cheating and so on.
