HYDERABAD: The GHMC is proposing to spend considerable sums for development of roads, bridges, flyovers as well as for public transport projects like MMTS and BRTS in the forthcoming financial year of 2011-2012. Mayor B. Kartika Reddy told presspersons on Tuesday that the total capital expenditure has been put at Rs. 1,896.76 crore with Rs. 312 crore allotted for roads, traffic signals & foot over bridges, Rs. 220 crore for flyovers & bridges, Rs. 217 crore for BRTS & MMTS, Rs. 86 crore for storm water drains, etc. The Standing Committee presided over by her discussed the draft budget proposals for the second successive day. She said the needs of the pedestrians have been taken into account with Rs. 30 crore suggested for development of footpaths and table drains. About Rs. 37 crore is to be spent on slaughterhouses modernisation, burial grounds development, dispensaries, public conveniences and others. Parks, gymnasiums The panel directed officials to enhance the budgetary proposals by another Rs. 80 crore while stating that more revenue can be accrued from motor vehicle tax, trade licence fees, etc. Emphasis next year will also be on improving colony parks, playgrounds and gymnasiums with at least two in each division. Money for sports equipment too will be hiked.
