DHARWAD: It was a thrilling experience for visitors to witness Mallkhamb, the traditional form of gymnastics during the National Children's Festival here on Wednesday.

Everyone held their breath as the members of the Sri Shivashetty Yuvak Mandal of Yelivar village displayed a remarkable combination of skill and agility to perform various acrobatic feats while hanging on to a wooden pole.

The boys in the age group of eight to 14 presented various yoga postures using the pole. The audience appreciated the performance.

Mandal director Veeresh Badiger said that the boys began practising Mallkhamb two years ago with the help of a trainer from Sultanpur. They have performed in many places such as festivals and NSS camps.

Today they have a strength of 15, he said.
