Panaji to host South Asia Media Summit

The three-day event will be inaugurated on Monday


PANAJI: ‘Women in media in South Asia: partners in development' will be the theme of the seventh annual three-day South Asia Media Summit to be held here from Monday.

Goa Governor S.S. Sidhu will inaugurate the summit at The International Centre Goa (ICG). The programme is organised by ICG, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung – India, and Public Diplomacy Division, Union Ministry of External Affairs, in association with Media Information and Communication Centre of India and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Goa Speaker Pratapsingh Rane, president of ICG, will be the guest of honour while T.N. Anantha Krishna, Director (Public Diplomacy), Ministry of External Affairs, and Veena Sikri, professor, Jamia Millia Islamia, will be the special guests at the inaugural ceremony.

Around 40 leading women journalists from South Asian countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India, will participate in the seminar, said Nandini Sahai, Director of ICG, here on Wednesday.

Sessions

The summit will include sessions on ‘Women in media: livelihood, development and the environment', ‘Women in media: peace, security and conflict prevention,' ‘Women in media: strengthening democracy through networking and shared cultural values,' ‘Women in media - social issues I: education and health' and ‘Women in media - social issues II: nutrition and food security'.
