MADURAI: The Madurai Aavin Union is planning to launch 10 new products such as ‘curd in cups' and yoghurt besides ice creams. The sales would be targeted at locations within the Madurai Corporation limits. “This set of 10 products will hit the markets very soon. The union is even considering launching another set of 10 products. It is also going to open a 24-hour milk parlour at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH),” Collector C. Kamaraj, who is also the Special Officer of Madurai Aavin Union, told The Hindu. He also applauded the Aavin Union officials for having increased this year's Deepavali season sales by Rs. 60 lakh. While last year's festival sale was only Rs. 15 lakh, this year saw the union sell products worth Rs. 75 lakh. V. Muthiah, General Manager, Madurai Aavin Union, said that construction of Aavin parlour near the GRH's Gynaecology Ward was nearly completed and it would be inaugurated during December. Aavin already has an outlet at GRH near the Paediatric Ward. Sweet sales He said that only 560 kilograms of ghee was sold last year and butter sales were not done at all due to drought conditions. This year around 20 tonnes of ghee and 2.1 tonnes of butter were sold. Mysore Pa sales increased to 8.1 tonnes compared to 5.9 tonnes last year with flavoured milk 200-ml bottle sales touching 8,400 this year from 4,000 last year. Milk procurement was expected to touch 1.85 lakh litres a day very soon. The current sales levels of 1.90 lakh litres per day were being maintained by purchases from Tiruchi and Coimbatore Unions, he said. Mr. Muthiah said that all efforts were being undertaken by the Madurai Aavin Union to meet the sales targets set by the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation.
