State tourism awards announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Intersight Tours and Travels (P) Ltd., Kochi, and The Great India Tour Company (P) Ltd, Thiruvananthapuram, have bagged the Kerala State Tourism Award 2009-10 for the best inbound tour operator and outbound operator respectively.

Periyar House, Thekkady, of the KTDC Hotels and Resorts has won the award for the best one star/two star hotel in the awards announced by the Additional Director Tourism (General) here on Friday. Sneehatheeram, Thalikulam, Thrissur, was adjudged the best tourism destination.

Marari Beach resort, Mararikulam got the award for the best three-star hotel and for the best innovative tourism project. Subramoniam, general manager of the hotel was selected as the Best Hotel Manager.

Spice Village, Thekkady, won the award for the best four-star hotel, The Great Way Hotel, Marine Drive, Kochi, for the best five-star hotel and the Le Meridian Resort and Convention Centre, Marad, Kochi for the best five-star deluxe hotel.

In the best heritage hotel category, Coconut Lagoon, Kumarkom, got the State tourism award. Somatheeram Ayurvedic Hospital and Yoga Centre (P) Ltd, Chowara, bagged the award for the best approved Ayurvedic Centre, Rainbow Cruises, Alappuzha, the award for the best approved houseboat and Coconut Creek Farm and Home stay, Kumarakom, for the best approved homestay.

T. J. Sreejith of Mathrubhumi Yatra Magazine got the award for the best tourism article and the official website of the KTDC Hotels and Resorts (www.ktdc.com) bagged the award for the best website and Leen Thobias of P4 Panorama, Kottayam, got the award for the best tourism related photo.

The Oriental School of Hotel Management, Wayanad, was adjudged the best tourism/hotel management institute, Chattanchal Higher Secondary School, Kasaragod got the award for the tourism club for best performance, Shahriyar of Darul Ul um VHSS, Pulepadi, Ernakulam got the award for the best performance among the student coordinators of tourism clubs in the State.

Shijimol Jacob, Vocational Teacher, Travel and Tourism, Darul Ul um VHSS, Pulepadi, Ernakulam, was selected for the award for the best teacher coordinator and Satyan C., Tourism Police, Kannur City Police Station, Kannur, the award for the best tourist police. K. Mohanan of Ernaikal, Kozhikode, got the award for the best tourism guide. The awards will be distributed by Minister for Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at a function at the Mascot convention centre here on November 24.
