Maoists set ablaze panchayat office

Staff Reporter

KOLKATA: Suspected Maoists set ablaze a panchayat office at Sankrail in West Bengal's Paschim Medinipur district late on Thursday.

Meanwhile, there were reports that four bodies were seen by villagers at the bottom of a dried-up well at Shirshi village in the district. The police, however, could not confirm the report. “A group of men set the panchayat office on fire. Most of the furniture and some documents were gutted. None was injured in the incident,' Superintendent of Police of Jhargram, Pravin Kumar Tripathi said on Friday.
