Plea to withdraw daily two-hour power cut

Staff Reporter

PERNAMBUT: The Consumer Welfare Protection Society of Pernambut has urged the TNEB to withdraw the two-hour-long daily power cuts as it was causing inconvenience to consumers in Pernambut municipality and its surrounding areas.

President of the society T. Basheeruddin, in a letter submitted to the Chief Engineer/Distribution, Vellore region of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) as part of the fourth quarterly meeting to be convened by the board to get in views from non-government organisations, said consumers in Pernambut municipality and its surrounding areas including Sathgar, Erikuthi, Masigam, Chinna Dhammal Cheruvu and Kothapalli panchayats faced hardships due to the daily power suspension from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. They demanded withdrawal of daily power cut. Till then, they requested the TNEB to suspend power from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The society said the several damaged meters have not been replaced for years now.

As a result of these faulty meters, additional electricity charges were being collected.

They demanded that the meters be replaced within a month or else minimum charges should be collected till then.

Replacement of cables

The society also asked the department to replace the damaged overhead electricity cables on Bazaar Street and install additional transformers in areas including Rasheedabad, Rahmadabad, Puthukoil and Salapettai.
