Experience of lifetime:A delegation of students from Tirupur at the Wagah border recently as part of a ‘peace mission' trip organised by Rotary Club of Tirupur North. Tirupur: The 42 students and five teachers from government schools here who went along with 24 Rotarians to Wagah recently for a ‘peace mission' have come back with rich memories. The trip was sponsored by Rotary Club of Tirupur North. The team witnessed the famous Retreat ceremony. However, the scheduled exchange of Rotary flags with the members of the Lahore-based Rotary 3272 district did not take place due to tight security even though the Rotarians from the other side of the border turned up. “The only consolation was that we waved at each other through the border gate,” D.K. Uday, ‘Project Wagah' coordinator, told The Hindu. For majority of the students who were travelling outside the state for the first time, the visit to the border as well as to places like Jalianwala Bagh and Golden temple in Amristar had provided them an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Indian history.
