Tenant farmer found dead in fields

KAKINADA: A tenant farmer died under suspicious circumstances at Gollapalem village on the city outskirts. According to the police, Valluri Rama Rao, 48, was cultivating paddy in two acres and incurred losses due to the recent cyclone.

On Sunday morning, family members spotted the body of Rama Rao in the farm field. The police suspected that he might have consumed pesticide. A case has been registered and investigation is on.

In another incident, a welder died when fire broke out in an oil mill at Sarpavaram on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Gollapalli Venkata Ratnam alias Raju, 22, a welder in Gauthami Edible Oils and a resident of Sammavaram village on the city outskirts. The accident took place in the afternoon, when Raju sustained severe burns and died on the spot. A case was registered.

At Atreyapuram, 21-year-old Chittimenu Ankalu died in a road accident on Sunday. The incident took place when Ankalu, a daily labourer, was crossing the road in the morning. A private bus that was on its way to Vijayawada for the ‘Arya Vysya Sammelan' hit Ankalu, killing him on the spot. A case has been registered.
