The programme will support students whose parental income is below Rs.10,000 per month CHENNAI: Over 700 students took the selection test for FIITJEE's ‘ The Hindu Education Plus Fortunate 40,' a programme to train students from economically underprivileged sections for competitive examinations, here on Sunday. Four centres – three Chennai Schools run by the Chennai Corporation and Maharishi Vidya Mandir – were the test centres in the city. A total of 600 students belonging to various Chennai Schools took the selection test, according to FIITJEE Student Mentor R.Rajan. Students who clear both the individual subject cut-off and total cut-off marks would be eligible for the training. Forty students will be selected for training at each centre. The one-year-long training would begin next April. The students would be accommodated in school-integrated programme or non-integrated programme based on their cut-off marks, Mr.Rajan said. The programme will financially support students currently in class VIII or X, whose parental income is below Rs.10,000 per month. The training would be given for the selected students to crack the exams such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted for admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology. FIITJEE would offer 100 per cent scholarships and complete waiver of hostel fee for them. Students of class VIII were tested in the basics of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, and class X students in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Results of the test would be announced by end of this month.
