Children from slums under the care of NGOs take part in Bala Mela Bangalore: A large number of children from different slums and those being taken care of by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the city took part in Bala Mela, held at Jyothi School in Lingarajapuram on Sunday. The mela witnessed a variety of cultural shows in which the enthusiastic children, clad in colourful costumes, participated. “I really love the mela because every time I come here I win the games organised. Besides, I also get to meet a lot of new people,” Sayeed Abraham, from Raza Foundation, told The Hindu. Film screening Born Free, an organisation that takes care of underprivileged children and spreads the message of peace, screened a film on the occasion. A health clinic was also set up at the venue of the mela. Legal aid High Court judge B.S. Patil, who inaugurated the mela, said: “For the benefit of such underprivileged children I have released literature on free legal aid and guidelines to be followed when a missing child is found.” Anthony Sebastian, Executive Director of ECHO, Centre for Juvenile Justice, said: “This is a platform for all the underprivileged children to air their problems.”
