Norms for installation of statues

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Notices should be served on those who installed statues in the city without approval of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation or a committee set up for the purpose, Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Committee K. Dorabbai said.

At a meeting here on Wednesday, he said barring statues of national leaders, late Presidents, Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers, others intending to set up statues should pay Rs.2 lakhs as deposit to the GVMC and the cost for it.

Of the nine statues to be installed as per government orders, seven have been set up. Steps should be taken to install the statues of Bhagat Singh and Indira Gandhi, Mr. Dorabbai said.

Resolution

According to a council resolution, 15 statues were to be installed and sites should be identified for them, he said. While it was resolved to install YS Rajasekhar Reddy's statues in all the six zones, only in two zones it was done and steps should be taken for the others. Members Banala Srinivasa Rao, Botta Eswaramma, AJ Stalin, Nalluri Bhaskara Rao, ASN Raju, Alla Srinivasa Rao, Badrunnisa, Chief Engineer B. Jayarami Reddy and Chief City Planner D. Venkataratnam participated.
