LONDON: Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych remained in the hunt for a place in the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals after a 7-5, 6-3 win over Andy Roddick on Wednesday. Berdych admitted he had been paralysed by nerves on his Tour Finals debut on Monday when Novak Djokovic brushed aside the Czech sixth seed in straight sets. But, after over-powering eighth seed Roddick, the 25-year-old will go into his final Group A match against Rafael Nadal on Friday knowing a win would likely secure him a spot in the last four of the prestigious end-of-year tournament at London's O2 Arena. Berdych is the only player among the eight here not to have won an ATP title this season, but the last time he played in London he defeated Roger Federer en route to the Wimbledon final. Roddick had given a good account of himself against Nadal on Monday, serving 18 aces and even holding a break in the final set, before eventually succumbing to the World No. 1's relentless aggression. On Tuesday, Swedish fourth seed Robin Soderling defeated Spain's David Ferrer 7-5, 7-5 to keep alive his bid to reach the semifinals. The results: Group A: Tomas Berdych bt Andy Roddick 7-5, 6-3. Group B: Robin Soderling bt David Ferrer 7-5, 7-5 . — AFP
