Surprise inspection of yarn stocks

Kolhapur: The Revenue and Sales Tax officers visited go downs of yarn merchants at Ichalkaranji in Kolhapur district on Wednesday in a surprise drive to verify stocks and also irregularities, if any.
The action is in response to a demand by the local unit of the Anna Hazare's Corruption Eradication Committee for verification of yarn stocks that are allegedly kept and sold without paying due taxes. Stocks position and rates are not displayed as alleged by both the powerloom owners and the committee activists.
According to sources of the Revenue Department, stocks and rates are being displayed after the surprise visits. However, the position of stocks without paying due taxes is being verified.
A few more surprise visits had been planned, it is said.
