Inter-Railway basketball from today

HYDERABAD: South Central Railway Sports Association, under the aegis of Railway Sports Promotion Board, will organise the 53rd men's and 34th women's Inter-railway women's basketball tournament at RRC Grounds here from Friday.

Eighteen teams will be in the fray for men's event while eight teams feature in the distaff section. The teams have been split into four groups in men's category and two in women's section in the event to be played on league-cum-knock-out basis.

The meet assumes significance as the Indian Railways probables for the forthcoming Senior Nationals will be picked based on the performances here.

Gopi takes honours

T. Gopi of Southern Command won the 5000m event clocking 14:53.00 in the Army Inter-Command athletics meet at Artillery Centre.

The results: 5000m: 1. T. Gopi (Southern Command) 14:53.00, 2. Yeshwant Singh (C. Command), 3. Deepak Kumar (S. Command).

Long jump: 1. R. S. Bijil (S. Command) 7. 47 m, 2. Vijay Pal (S. Command), 3. Tanmay Adhikari (C. Command) .

Ronald dazzles

Issac Ronald scored a hat-trick to help Don Bosco School (Eraggada) record an easy 5-0 win over Sadhu Vaswani School (Kompally) in the John de Souza inter-schools football tournament at Bowenpally here.

The results:

St. Andrews, Bowenpally, 2 (Sabur, Jayudu) bt Bhavan's Sainikpuri 1 (Manish); Don Bosco, Erragadda bt Sadhu Vaswani School, Kompally, 5-0 (Issac Ronald 3, Karthik 1, Md. Mubeen); HPS Begumpet drew with St. Patrick's 0-0; Indus World School bt ZPHS 2-0 (Audi 2).

Match drawn

Central Excise and AGORC were locked in a two-all draw in the A-Division Rahim League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds here.

It was Excise which led 2- 0 at the half-time with Ali Sherbi and Akshay being on target.

However, in the second session, David and Ifteqar struck once each for AGORC to ensure the game was drawn.

Dirt track racing

Gulf Cup Dirt Track Racing's first round will be held at NTR Pavilion Grounds (near Indira Park) here on December 4 and 5.

Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering in Visakhapatnam will conduct trials to select the JNTU's table tennis men's and women's teams at its premises in Madhurawada on Nov. 27 and 28.
