Vijayawada
Agitating advocates cling on to the car of a judge even as the police try to drag them away at the civil courts in Vijayawada on Thursday. VIJAYAWADA: The 53rd-day protest for the setting up of a High Court Bench between Vijayawada and Guntur resulted in a friction between the agitating lawyers and the police, on Thursday. Scenes of pushing and shoving were witnessed at the city civil and criminal courts complex in the morning when the police attempted to lift the agitating advocates. In the melee, four women advocates — Ganga Bhavani, M. Chandra Kumari, Anuradha and Razia Sultana — suffered minor bruises. They were shifted to the Government General Hospital by another advocate T. Chiranjeevi. They were discharged in the evening. The police contended that they were forced to lift them following a call from a judge. The advocates, who earlier appealed to the judge that the police be barred from entering the court complex, were infuriated over this and raised slogans against the judge. A hullabaloo prevailed in the complex for quite some time.
