VIP visitor at NIMS

Special Correspondent

Reaching out: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy talking to a boy at NIMS.

HYDERABAD: As an indication of his government's commitment to continue the schemes launched by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the newly sworn-in Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy commenced his first day in office by visiting the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Thursday. Mr. Reddy drove straight from Raj Bhavan to NIMS and interacted with a few patients including children undergoing treatment in the Rajiv Arogyasri ward.

He enquired with them about the facilities being provided at the hospital and the shortcomings, if any. He assured the patients that the government was committed to providing healthcare facilities to poor at major hospitals through Arogyasri, the public health insurance scheme, a brainchild of the late YSR.

Mr. Reddy was accompanied by Ministers in the previous Cabinet P. Satyanarayana and D. Nagender, MLAs P. Shankar Rao, M. Shashidhar Reddy and Akbaruddin Owaisi and MP Anjan Kumar Yadav.

It was a busy day for the new Chief Minister as a series of activities followed the swearing-in ceremony.

From NIMS he went to Lake View guest house, where officials and non-officials called on and greeted him on his elevation.

Before addressing his maiden media conference, he paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi statue on the premises of Legislative Assembly.

He then paid tributes at the statues of B.R. Ambedkar, Babu Jagjivan Ram, Indira Gandhi, P. Janardhan Reddy, Rajiv Gandhi and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
