More WB funds for State project

CHENNAI: The World Bank has agreed to provide an additional Rs.950 crore to Tamil Nadu under the Vazhundhu Kaattuvom project, a development initiative of the State government to reduce poverty and empower rural poor. The duration of the project, scheduled to lapse in September 2011, has been extended till September 2014.

In view of the provision of additional funds, the project would be extended to 46 blocks of 10 more districts (Dindigul, Madurai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Karur, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar and Pudukottai) and four other blocks of Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin and Tiruvannamalai, where the project was already under operation.
