Aspirants intensify efforts for berth

Staff Reporter

Strategy vis-à-vis Jagan group likely to impact their prospects

RAJAHMUNDRY: Even as the suspense over the composition of the new Cabinet continues, aspirants have intensified their efforts to find a place in the new set-up as Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy is expected to go to New Delhi on Saturday.

It is felt that the strategy the party high command adopts vis-à-vis supporters of Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy will have a bearing on the prospects of the aspirants in East Godavari district.

If the high command wishes to keep the Jagan group at bay, Pilli Subhashchandra Bose, who held the Social Welfare portfolio in the Rosaiah Cabinet, stands a bleak chance, as he openly extended his support to the Kadapa MP and even went to the extent of criticising Mr. Rosaiah at one point of time. Similar fate is likely to befall Pinipe Viswaroop, who indicated his loyalty to Mr. Jagan by attending his Odarpu Yatra in the district.

In case the party higher-ups decide to give a chance to new faces, Rajahmundry MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasha Rao stands a bright chance to land a berth in the State Cabinet. For, he is not only a popular leader but also in the good books of MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar and Mr. Rosaiah as well. He is also a close associate of senior party leader Botcha Satyanarayana. This apart, he also had a good association with the former Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

The other aspirants from the district are former DCC president Thota Narasimham, Nallamilli Sesha Reddy and MLC Chaitanya Raju. While Mr. Narasimham enjoys the support of all sections and a senior among the three, Mr. Sesha Reddy, who represents Anaparti, seems to be pushing his candidature using the Reddy lobby. It may be recalled that two months ago he invited Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was then Speaker, to his constituency and felicitated him. Mr. Chaitanya Raju is playing the community card as it has not been represented in the last three Cabinets.

First time MLA from Kakinada Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy stands a chance if the Chief Minister intends to take freshers. Pamula Rajeswari is also in the race pinning hopes on the women quota.
