Mishra restricts Saurashtra

Special Correspondent

RAJKOT: Pawan Suyal removed Sitanshu Kotak — the batting mainstay of Saurashtra — with smart bowling here at the Khanderi stadium, but generally the Delhi seamers slogged in vain.

Slow bowler Vikas Mishra preyed on the batsmen's eagerness to attack and snared 4-33 as the home side was restricted to 231-6 in the first innings of the Ranji Trophy Elite League tie.

The sun dried out wet outfield patches on the third day, play commenced one hour, 45 minutes after scheduled start and was called off due to bad light at 75.3 overs. With the first two days already lost, completing the first innings remains the primary objective as both teams vie for points.

Saurashtra openers Chirag Pathak and Bhushan Chauhan put on 104 in a first-wicket stand notable for confident front-foot play against the new ball. For Delhi, left-arm spinner Mishra delivered, with the valuable wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara being one of his four victims.

Pujara lost his wicket in trying to cut against the turn and snicking behind into Puneet Bisht's gloves. Kotak was another reputed batsman to be snapped up by the Delhi wicket-keeper, a high catch taken smoothly.

Jaydev Shah who remains a thorn in Delhi's flssh, stroked confidently through the line for six fours and is unbeaten on 43 off 70 balls.

Manhas opted to field after winning the toss and now needs four more wickets before the chase for first innings lead takes another turn on the fourth day.
