Train driver gets 3 years in jail

Dehra Dun: A local court has sentenced a train driver to rigorous imprisonment for three years for running over three elephants, which were crossing the track that runs through the Rajaji National Park, 12 years ago.

On Thursday, Chief Judicial Magistrate Kunwar Amanendra Singh also slapped a fine of Rs. 10,000 on Vijay Pal, finding him guilty of violating the permissible speed limit of 30 km per hour in national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, which led to the September 1998 accident.
