Vaishali Somaiah bags a double

BANGALORE: The fare dished out at the 10th KPMG Bangalore City inter-school athletic championship was disappointing for the second consecutive day at the Sree Kanteerava stadium here on Friday.

Parikrama athletes dominated the lower age categories once again but there were murmurs about the age factors even as a couple of athletes from St. Vincent Pallotti, got the boot.

Vaishali Somaiah of Clarence HS stood tall in the girls' under-16 section winning two gold medals. Vaishali clinched the 400 metres gold with a time of 1:05.8 seconds before clearing a height of 1.34 metres for the high jump gold as well.

The results (winners only): Boys: Under-8: Long jump: Sourav (Parikrama) 3.21m; 4x50 m relay: Vidyashilp Academy 34.2s. Under-10: 60m: Shubham (Parikrama) 8.9s. Under-12: 400m: Prashant P (Parikrama) 1:05.8s; Shot put: Rohan mammen (Vidyaniketan, Hebbal) 8.18m. Under-14: 400m: 400m: Doujanao (Parikrama) 58.6s; High jump: B.G Akash (Vidyaniketan PS) 1.42m. Under-16: 400m: Narayan S (DPS) 56.8s; Medley Relay: St. Josephs Indian HS 2:16.6s.

Girls: Under-8: Long jump: Chaithra (Parikrama) 2.72m; 4x50m relay: Parikrama 36.6s. Under-10: 60m: Kaveri (Parikrama) 9.3s. Under-12: 400m: Toommy Vaishnave (Baldwin Girls) 1:09.8s; High jump: P.P. Harini (Baldwin Girls) 1.17mts; Shot put: Rekwon (Legacy) 6.96mts. Under-14: 400m: Lopamudra K.T. (Bishop Cotton) 1:07.6s; Long jump: Deshna Vinay (Vidyashilp Academy) 4.46mts. Under-16: 400m: Vaishali Somaiah (Clarence HS) 1:05.8s; Long jump: Praneetha Pradeep (Bethany's) 5.46mts; High jump: Vaishali Somaiah (Clarence HS) 1.34m; 4x100m relay: Army Public School 56.5s .

Mixed luck for MEG

MEG teams had mixed fortunes in the State ‘A' division hockey league at the KSHA stadium here on Friday. While MEG ‘B' overwhelmed Coorg Blues 5-1, MEG Boys suffered a 1-4 defeat at the hands of SAI.

Coorg Blues which went into the lead with Irfan striking in the 13th minute. But once Ganesh Kumar restored parity in the 17th minute there was no doubting MEG ‘B' team's superiority. Siraj (2), Vinod and Monappa strucvk to give the team a convincing victory.

Biju (11th), Ganapathy (22nd) and Ratan Muthanna (50th, 59th) put SAI in the driver's seat while Thiru managed to pull one back for the Boys in the 42nd minute.

Ankush struggles

Ankush Joshi was made to strive for every point by Venu Madhav in the second round qualifying match in the Bank Of India All India Senior ranking badminton tournament at the KBA courts here on Friday. Ankush won 23-21, 12-21, 22-20.

Other results: Men: Abhishek Yeligar bt Aditya Joshi 22-20, 12-21, 21-18; Abhishek Yeligar bt Sriteja K 21-10, 19-21, 21-9.

Women: Dimpal hazarika bt Niharika Saini 12-21, 21-18, 21-17 .
