“675 held under Goondas Act”

CHENNAI: A total of 675 persons were detained under the Goondas Act up to November, Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran said on Friday. “This is the highest number after 2002 when 1,143 persons were detained under the Act All were involved in several crimes, including murder and attempt to murder cases,” he said.
Mr. Rajendran was briefing presspersons on the detection of 33 cases in which 38 suspects were arrested and stolen property Rs.77.6 lakh was recovered.
In burglaries reported at Secretariat Colony and Raja Annamalaipuram, police arrested Mahendra Das of Orissa and Manojkumar Biswas of Nepal.
The stolen jewellery and cash were recovered.
Additional Commissioners of Police Sanjay Arora (Crimes), M. Shakeel Akhter (Law and Order), Joint Commissioners of Police P. Sakthivelu (South) and S.N. Seshasai (North) were present.
