KRISHNAGIRI: A training programme on how to handle the differently-abled children was conducted for primary school teachers and headmasters at the Block Resource Centre in Bargur.
A release from the Education Department (Sarva Siksha Abiyan) said the programme was conceptualised as per the instruction of M. Baskaran, Chief Educational Officer, SSA.
Causes of disability, preventive measures and methods at special schools, and at the day-care centres were part of the curriculum.
Teachers were given training on how to handle the visually impaired, hearing impaired, physically challenged and children with cerebral palsy and autism.
Over 400 teachers participated in the training programme. C. Manimaran, District Differently-abled Welfare Officer, participated in the inaugural programme and spoke on various programmes and measures taken by the government for the welfare of the differently-abled.
