Teams formed to check disease outbreak

Tuticorin: To prevent outbreak of vector-borne disease, Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine had formed teams comprising 15 each for every block in the district. The teams would identify mosquito-breeding sites, said S. Uma, Deputy Director, Health Services, Tuticorin, here on Saturday.

Twelve teams would conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns in rural areas to advise precautionary measures to prevent diseases. Mosquitoes at larval stage would be killed on the spot using a solution. Sensitisation programme to this effect was conducted at Kayalpattinam recently. Health Inspectors and Village Health Nurses,students and teachers of various schools attended.

The Department of Health has taken necessary steps to prevent outbreak of monsoon-related diseases, said Deputy Director M. Madhusoodhanan here on Saturday.

He said that steps had been taken to control diseases such as Influenza A (HINI), tuberculosis, jaundice, measles and leptospirosis. He appealed to the people not to take unhygienic food in hotels and elsewhere.
