‘We want only unrestricted access into the Uthamapalayam New Mariamman temple' Tirupur: A meeting of the Uthamapalayam New Mariamman Temple entry agitation committee passed a resolution seeking the State Government intervention to open the temple. The committee, comprising Dalits from Vellakoil block, at a meeting held on Saturday also brought to the notice of the Government of the action of some revenue and police officials who had been extending ‘offers' to Dalits as an alternative to them for not entering the temple. “We want only unrestricted access into the Uthamapalayam New Mariamman temple,” the committee convener S. Karuppaiah said. Presently, the temple is closed by the officials following differences between Dalits and upper caste people.
