Maoists blow up building

Village in Jharkhand raided during panchayat polls

SEARCH OPERATIONS:CRPF jawans combing the village in Latehar district of Jharkhand that was raided by Maoists.

RANCHI: Maoists on Saturday blew up a panchayat building in Jharkhand's Latehar district, some 140 km from here, as the State held its first panchayat polls, police said on Sunday.

Police said 15 to 20 Maoists raided Khura village in Latehar on Saturday night and blew up the panchayat building using detonators and explosives.

No casualty

No casualties were reported in the incident.

The incident took place close to the police station. The CRPF and BSF are combing the area. The incident has spread panic in the district. The police have tightened the security in the area.

In the first phase of the five-phase panchayat polls, 70 per cent polling was recorded in Latehar.

In another incident, police recovered two landmines from Khapia village in Latehar district.
