Efforts will be made to install Phule statue: Mayor

VISAKHAPATNAM: Efforts will be made to install a statue of social reformer Jyotirao Phule in the city, Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao said paying glowing tributes to him at a meeting to mark his 120 {+t} {+h} death anniversary organised at the Social Welfare Department's office on Sunday.

He recalled his efforts to educate the downtrodden and his signal contribution to their uplift while leading a simple life.

District Collector J. Syamala Rao said the contribution of Mahatma Phule was getting due recognition now. He provided the inspiration for the introduction of several welfare schemes for the backward sections.

Additional Joint Collector S. Satyanarayana spoke on the exemplary life of Mahatma Phule and his untiring endeavour to uplift people.
